Frequently asked questions

What is Prince george emergency crew or pgec?

benefits of volunteering

Prince George Fire and EMS does have paid staff and we are thankful for them.  Currently Prince George FIRE / EMS & Emergency Management is made up of Career and Volunteer personnel.  Statistics show that about 81% of all Squads and Emergency Crews in Virginia have career staff to assist them with the call load.  It is challenging (and rewarding) to volunteer.  Career staff and Volunteers work together to help the citizens of Prince George.

There are two career staffed units for the county’s 40,000 residents 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  There is a third career unit from 9AM to 9PM 7 days a week.  We can always use more volunteers.  With more volunteers that frees the County crews up to staff other equipment as well.

Volunteer EMS providers work all times of the day and night alongside career staff to answer thousands of calls a year; over 3,000 calls for service in 2015 alone!

why do we need volunteers, i thought prince george had paid fire and ems?

Prince George Emergency Crew requires that Active Members ride on the Ambulance for 24 hours of "duty" a month.

This doesn’t have to be all at one time, you can usually “break up” the time to suit your schedule.

In addition to that there is usually one meeting day and one training day a month.  The meetings and training sessions are held in the evenings.

if riding on the Ambulance is not for you; we also have administrative/ logistical and support needs to you can help with too.  Please contact us for more info.
